CMA are not only look after cost roles but also different field of Indirect and direct cost hence CMA is having the required SKILL 2. Concentration of power always create monopoly for certain member of institute but including CMA will reduce the concentration risk to depending only of CA. 3. Curriculum of CMA includes income tax in detail in Inter and Final Level. 4. Nikhil Shrivastava Student Gwalior madhyapradesh Respected Sir/Madam,

I would like to bring to your attention the need to allow Cost and Management Accountants (CMAs) to conduct tax audits under Section 44AB of the Income Tax Act, 1961. CMAs possess deep expertise in cost control, financial analysis, and taxation, making them well-equipped to perform tax audits with accuracy and integrity.

Reasons Why CMAs Should Be Allowed to Conduct Tax Audits:

1. Expertise in Taxation & Compliance – CMAs undergo rigorous training in direct and indirect taxation, financial management, and compliance, enabling them to effectively verify tax filings and financial statements.

2. Statutory Recognition in Other Areas – CMAs are already authorized to conduct audits in various laws, such as GST audits, stock audits, and cost audits under the Companies Act, 2013, demonstrating their capability to handle tax audits as well.

3. Global Precedents – Many countries, including the USA, UK, and Canada, recognize management accountants as qualified professionals for tax compliance and audit services. India should also align with this global best practice.

4. Reducing the Burden on Existing Auditors – Allowing CMAs to conduct tax audits would help distribute the workload among qualified professionals, ensuring better compliance and reducing delays in the audit process.

5. Enhancing Transparency & Governance – CMAs specialize in cost and performance analysis, which can add significant value to tax audits by identifying tax inefficiencies and ensuring better tax planning.

Given their expertise, statutory recognition, and ability to enhance tax compliance, it is imperative to allow CMAs to conduct tax audits. This will not only strengthen the Indian tax system but also promote a more inclusive approach to financial governance.

I kindly request you to consider this proposal and take the necessary steps to amend the relevant provisions to allow CMAs to perform tax audits.

Sivaranj P Student kannur The exclusion of cost accountants from the definition of accountants in the new income tax bill is a matter of concern. Cost accountants undergo rigorous training in financial reporting, cost management, and taxation, equipping them with the necessary expertise to perform tax audits. They play a crucial role in improving the efficiency and transparency of financial practices in organizations. By including cost accountants in the definition, the bill would not only broaden the scope of qualified professionals available for income tax audits but also recognize their competency and contributions, which are on par with Chartered Accountants. This inclusion would be a step towards a more inclusive and balanced approach to tax governance. 21 Feb 2025, 09:38 PM
