Vipul Mundhra Member Surat Cost Accountants (CMAs) should be recognized as accountants under the new Income Tax Bill due to their expertise in financial management, taxation, and accounting. Our qualifications enable us to handle complex tax matters, financial reporting, and auditing, ensuring better services and promoting competition. CMAs play a critical role in areas like inventory valuation, GST audits, internal audits, and banking audits, helping ensure tax compliance and financial integrity. Their inclusion in the Income Tax Act 2025 would provide an additional layer of oversight, preventing fraud and tax evasion, and ensuring a more accurate financial system. This recognition supports India’s vision of becoming a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) by 2047. As CMAs are already recognized in GST audits, our inclusion in Income Tax audits will foster transparency, accuracy, and global trust in India’s tax system, encouraging tax compliance and contributing to the country’s economic growth. 19 Feb 2025, 05:03 PM

Needless to mention that you are the Representative face of the whole INDIAN CMA family, we all have enormous faith in you for taking appropriate steps towards bringing recognition to the CMA profession. Our sister professional institute is leaving no stone unturned for presenting themselves to govt representatives and continuously meeting with proper personalities, whereas, we are just sitting without taking single steps !! It's high time to come forward and take appropriate action.

I apologise for any word, if any, mentioned above that hurts your prestige.

Poornima Ramakrishnan Member Chennai Provide level playing field to all professionals 19 Feb 2025, 04:55 PM
Avneesh Malik Member Muzaffarnagar Increasing the scope of accountants in India for tax audits and company audits is necessary for several reasons:

1. Growing Economy and Compliance Needs

India’s economy is expanding, leading to an increase in businesses, startups, and multinational corporations.

More businesses mean higher demand for audits to ensure compliance with tax laws, the Companies Act, and financial regulations.

2. Changing Tax Landscape

The introduction of GST, evolving Income Tax rules, and frequent amendments require skilled accountants to interpret and implement tax policies effectively.

More professionals are needed to assist businesses in navigating tax assessments, appeals, and litigation.

3. Reducing Burden on Chartered Accountants (CAs)

Currently, tax audits and company audits are primarily conducted by CAs, leading to workload concentration.

Expanding the role of other qualified accountants (Cost Accountants, Management Accountants, etc.) can distribute the workload efficiently.

4. Enhancing Transparency and Financial Discipline

More auditors mean better financial oversight, reducing fraud, tax evasion, and misreporting.

This strengthens corporate governance and investor confidence.

5. Encouraging Ease of Doing Business

Faster and more accessible audits can help businesses comply smoothly with regulations.

This can attract more foreign investments and boost business growth.

6. Technology and Digitalization

With the rise of AI, blockchain, and digital audits, accountants must expand their roles to include forensic accounting, cybersecurity audits, and data analytics.

A wider scope ensures that businesses stay ahead in financial technology adoption.

7. Globalization and Cross-Border Compliance

Many Indian companies now operate globally and must comply with international accounting and tax standards.

A broader pool of accountants can assist with IFRS, GAAP, and other global reporting requirements.

By increasing the scope of accountants in tax and company audits, India can ensure better compliance, reduce fraud, and support business growth in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
