TISTA ADHIKARI Others WEST BENGAL, KOLKATA As a student, I believe the inclusion of Cost and Management Accountants (CMAs) in the new Income Tax Bill 2025 is an essential step towards ensuring fair recognition of all accounting professionals in India. CMAs play a crucial role in managing costs, improving efficiency, and offering specialized financial advice. Their expertise should be acknowledged and incorporated into the framework of the Income Tax Bill, especially since they are well-equipped to contribute to tax-related functions. 20 Feb 2025, 12:15 PM

Akshaya Kushte Student MUMBAI The definition of 'Accountant' in the proposed Income Tax Act 2025 should explicitly include Cost and Management Accountants (CMAs). CMAs play a crucial role in cost analysis, tax planning, and financial compliance, contributing significantly to economic and regulatory frameworks. Their expertise in cost audit, internal control, and strategic decision-making makes them essential for ensuring accurate financial reporting and tax compliance. Recognizing CMAs as 'Accountants' will enhance efficiency, broaden the professional base, and ensure a more comprehensive approach to financial governance. 20 Feb 2025, 12:15 PM

MdRehan Member Delhi Why CMAs can be given Income Tax Audits.

1.Strengthening MSME Tax Governance:
MSMEs often lack structured tax compliance due to limited resources. CMAs, with their experience in cost management and financial structuring, can help optimize tax liability while ensuring full compliance, benefiting small businesses and increasing tax revenues.

2. Strengthening Transfer Pricing & International Taxation
CMAs are already involved in transfer pricing documentation and cost analysis for international transactions. Their inclusion in tax audits would enhance accuracy in cross-border tax compliance, preventing tax base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS).

3. Industry-Specific Tax Audit Insights
Since CMAs conduct cost audits in regulated industries (such as pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, and manufacturing), they have deep insights into sectoral taxation. Their inclusion in tax audits would ensure a more informed approach to sector-specific tax policies.

4. Expertise in Cost & Financial Analysis
CMAs have deep expertise in cost structures, cost allocations, and financial analysis, making them well-equipped to assess financial statements accurately in an Income Tax Audit. They can ensure proper disclosure and classification of expenses, reducing tax leakages.

Further, the Government may consider the term Tax Agents for Income Tax Audit by those professionals (CA/CMA/CS) who enrolls themselves as a Tax Agents after qualifying certain test of Income Tax. This may further can give a sense of clarity of competency of all the professionals.

R Sandhiya Member Chennai Inclusion of CMA in accountant definition is very much needed. Curriculum of CMA has extensive coverage of income tax iat the intermediate stage and final stage. We are very well equipped to carry tax audit also. Further, increased availability of professionals will ensure time conpliances. We need to be treated at par. This is need of an hour. If CMA excluded then we will have limited scope of practice and there won't be recognition at all. Students won't prefer to study CMA in future due to lack of recognition. 20 Feb 2025, 12:11 PM
Naamaala Raja Student Guntur Include CMA's into the definition of Accountants in the new income tax bill since we are equally capable of doing the job and this will ensure the competition in the area as well as end up the monopoly of CA's, which is not good for the economy 20 Feb 2025, 12:11 PM

B KALYAN Student ANDHRA PRADESH The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) should be nationally recognized in areas such as Audit, Taxation, and other financial domains, similar to Chartered Accountants (CAs). Cost and Management Accountants (CMAs) play a crucial role in cost audit, internal audit, GST, direct and indirect taxation, and financial management. However, in many cases, regulatory recognition for CMAs is either limited or not on par with CAs. Ensuring equal recognition in audit and taxation-related areas would strengthen the profession and create more opportunities for CMAs. 20 Feb 2025, 12:10 PM
Rahul Kondibal Sakpal Member Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra I fully support the inclusion of Cost Accountants in the definition of "Accountants" as outlined in Section 515(3)(b) of the proposed Income Tax Act-2025. TAPAS MALLIK Member Kolkata ICMAI representation is very correct. 20 Feb 2025, 12:07 PM
Sourav Pathak Student Dhanbad The inclusion of Certified Management Accountants (CMAs) in the definition of "Accountant" recognizes the broad and essential role they play in today's dynamic business environment. CMAs bring specialized expertise in management accounting, focusing on strategic decision-making, financial planning, and performance management. Their training equips them with the ability to bridge the gap between financial data and actionable business insights, contributing to organizational growth and sustainability.

By formally acknowledging CMAs as part of the accounting profession, we affirm their critical role in enhancing operational efficiency, driving business strategies, and ensuring financial integrity. This also underscores the evolving nature of the accounting profession, where a deep understanding of both financial reporting and strategic management is indispensable. Embracing CMAs in the broader accounting definition fosters a more inclusive and comprehensive view of accounting professionals, reflecting the profession’s versatility and importance in supporting business success across industries.
